Dr. Shin-ichi SAKAI is currently Professor of Kyoto University, Environmental Preservation Research Center, Japan.  He was the former Director of Research Center for Material Cycles and Waste Management, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan.  Ph.D. in Environmental & Sanitary Engineering. Current special fields are “Persistent chemicals control in the field of waste management” and“System analysis of material cycles and waste management”.  He is a member of the advisory committee for the waste management policy of the Ministry of Environment, Japan and for the recycling policy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.  As a member of the editorial board of the Japan Society of Waste Management Experts, he edits the international Journal of Material Cycles & Waste Management (JMCWM) as one of the chief editors.
