Deutsche Malaria is based in Hamburg, the German partner city of Shanghai. It is a privately owned company financed by corporate and individual investors.
The company has commanded outstanding scientists, researchers and top medical institutions in Germany, SE Asia and Africa to develop a new and safe therapy against malaria. It is called fosmidomycin and is administered in combination with other antimalarials as a highly effective, well tolerated and safe treatment. It may also have a role in the initial treatment of severe malaria.  
The artemisinin therapies first developed by Tu Youyou, Nobel Laureate of 2015, are becoming less effective due to resistant malaria parasites. This is a matter of considerable concern. As fosmidomycin is not cross-resistant with the artemisinin derivatives, it could play an important role in areas where artemisinin is losing its effectiveness.
Hence projects being pioneered by Deutsche Malaria maybe very well positioned for scientific and commercial cooperation with Chinese institutions and companies to bring new, powerful and safe solutions to fight malaria. Deutsche Malaria is very interested to join with partners to bring these projects to fruition. A number of these projects are aimed at fighting malaria in Africa and could be quickly implemented.
China has a high interest in the development of Africa as was shown on the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation at the beginning of September in Beijing, where President Xi Jinping announced US $ 60 billion in support for African countries.
Health is one of the most important issues to improve the quality of life. More than 200 million people fall ill with malaria each year. About 80% of the nearly 500,000 deaths each year are African children. This is very concerning and unacceptable but it can be changed. At the same time, new and effective therapies for travellers to Africa on business or as tourists are much needed.
Deutsche Malaria has solutions and is looking for dialogue and partnerships at the BIOTEC-CHINA 2018 conference.

Deutsche Malaria CEO Dr David BA Hutchinson has been invited as the keynote speaker in the conference and the speech title is  Meeting the challenge of artemisinin resistance with fosmidomycin combination therapy. A novel approach with safety in children at the forefront
