Title: Self-Learning Control of Nonlinear Systems based on Iterative Adaptive Dynamic Programming Approach

Abstract:

The optimal control of nonlinear systems often requires solving the nonlinear Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation instead of the Riccati equation as in the linear case. The discrete-time HJB (DTHJB) equation is more difficult to work with than the Riccati equation because it involves solving nonlinear partial difference equations. Though dynamic programming has been a useful computational technique in solving optimal control problems for many years, it is often computationally untenable to run it to obtain the optimal solution, due to the backward numerical process required for its solutions, i.e., the well-known "curse of dimensionality". A self-learning control scheme for unknown nonlinear discrete-time systems is developed for this purpose. An iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm via globalized dual heuristic programming technique is developed to obtain the optimal controller with convergence analysis. Neural networks are used as parametric structures to facilitate the implementation of the iterative algorithm, which will approximate at each iteration the cost function, the optimal control law, and the unknown nonlinear system, respectively. Simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the present self-learning control approach.

Title: Difference between Grey Sets and Interval-valued Fuzzy Sets

Abstract:

Grey sets are widely considered as a different name of interval-valued fuzzy sets. However, due to the difference between grey numbers and interval values, grey sets are not exactly the same as interval-valued fuzzy sets. Exploring the difference between grey numbers and interval values, we discuss the relative uncertainty of a grey set to reveal the uncertainty sometime hidden by its degree of greyness. Our result reveals that there are significant differences between grey sets and interval-valued fuzzy sets. An interval-valued fuzzy set can be interpreted in different ways: it could represent an unknown value in a scope or a set of legal values. For the first interpretation, it can be considered as a special case of grey sets where the relative uncertainty of its corresponding grey set reaches its maximum value. For the second interpretation, an interval-valued fuzzy set has completely different semantic meaning than a grey set. Our result demonstrates that there are situations where grey sets and interval-valued fuzzy sets can not replace each other. Therefore, they are not exactly the same.

Title: The new management goals for the days after 2008

Abstract:

In the days before year 2008, the world economics had grown prosperously for over twenty years. During this period, engineers and managers all over the industries had dedicated their efforts to the improvement of production efficiency, including manufacturing cost and product quality. However, after the mortgage crisis event (world finance tsunami), the earth has shown the limitation of nature resources to the world economics, including energy, food, and other materials, and the properties of competition between companies have thus also changed. To meet with the new competition, the well concentrated concern by engineers and managers, production efficiency, is considered needing to be changed accordingly. The speech will address the contents of the suggested new management goals and related approaches for the years after 2008.

Short Biography:

How to resolve the contradiction between China's economic development and ecologicalization through the optimization of China's industrial system has become the major problem the government and academia facing? In terms of three statistical indicators of energy saving and consumption reducing from National Statistics Bureau, such as the industrial SO2 emission, industrial waste water discharge, and COD emission, the differences of main problem of China's ecology environment and development with the developed countries are analyzed. The root causes of ecological problems to seek effective path of Chinese industrial ecology and economy system optimization are put forward. Because of the lack of full information about the relationship between the system ecologicalization and economic development, the applications of the theory and method of grey system to the industrial ecology and economy system to study a series of new problems are given.

Title: Modeling Approach on Noninfectious Chronic Diseases

Abstract:

Noninfectious Chronic Diseases (NCDs) is the leading cause of death worldwide. It is also a public health and social development task in current China. As NCDs featured as multi results due to multi causes, research of model establishment is a suitable approach. We intended to explore and build NCDs prediction model aided by grey relational analysis and GM(1,1) model; To build NCDs monitoring model utilized with grey evaluation; to build NCDs control model with grey decision management; to build NCDs grey relational clustering model of a multi-level and multi-factor. Thus, a series of NCDs grey relational models could be established after axiomatic proof, accuracy test and model simulation. Based on "Models practical effect" test in historical NCDs data from China and UK, applied research will also be conducted in data collected from our NCDs monitoring zone in Shantou city. It is hoped that our research will supplement and become a unique branch of epidemiological methods.

Title: Not Black. Not even White. Definitively Grey Economic Systems

Abstract:

To better explain why the economic systems are grey, it is necessarily to study their components and to effectively look into their pasts or predict their future. In most of the cases, when predicting their future, the uncertainty arises. First of all, the human component plays an important role due to its usually unpredicted and sometimes irrational behavior, a situation strictly related to the way the humans are thinking and acting. From here, it is easily be demonstrated that when analyzing a system we are facing with grey knowledge. This kind of knowledge exists and it represents that small piece of puzzle that succeed in filling the gap that separate the explicit knowledge form the tacit one, also conducting to incertitude. Second, it often happens that the abnormal situations or crises that may arise in the economic systems to depend on various, mostly unknown or unpredicted, environmental conditions, including here turbulences. Moreover, when focusing specifically on firms as parts of the economic systems, this grey situation becomes even more noticeable. Firms - complex adaptive systems by nature - possess one of the most important sources of uncertainty that derives directly from their highly adaptive capacity. That is why, when analyzing the economic systems, in general, or their sub-systems, in particular, the applying of the grey systems theory methods becomes a very good alternative to the already consecrated methods. To support this idea, some of the most well-known and well-used methods in the economic systems “treatment” (including grey systems theory) are presented along with their main advantages and disadvantages. Also, a case study is illustrated, showing how we can combine these theories in order to achieve better results.

Title: The application of grey theory to image engineering

Abstract:

The objective world is full of uncertainty in less data, incomplete information. Additionally, there is finiteness of individual cognitive ability and lack of experience, so the world is grey. The uncertainty is absolute and certainty is relative.
Grey system theory has ability to characterize system with both partially known and partially unknown information. When an image is attacked such as by covering with high density noise, or adjustment of the luminance, JPEG compression, Scaling, and Cropping, many original information of the image can’t be seen and known. That mean the image could be taken as a grey system.
Research results in recent are as follows. Propose a novel algorithm of denoising algorithm based on DGM(1,1). Give a Blind Image Watermarking Scheme Based on GM(1,1) Model in Wavelet Domain.
